Since 2009, CO2Sense has specialised in financing renewable energy projects, supporting over 8MW of new renewable energy capacity to be developed and installed by commercial and community organisations. Building on this experience, CO2Sense has broadened its remit to invest in the wider environmental sector including energy efficiency, energy storage and waste and recycling. CO2Sense is only able to invest in the UK.

The fund is a £5m revolving fund with all capital repayments being returned and used for further investment. Surpluses are used to grow the fund. The fund was established by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (formerly the department for Business, Innovation and Skills) who continue to oversee the activity.
