South Derbyshire is a thriving and successful place at the heart of the National Forest, with a healthy visitor economy alongside an expanding business sector. With high-value jobs and outstanding transport links, you can understand why we’re one of the fastest growing Districts in the country and this is reflected in our vision to be ‘a great place to live, visit and invest’.

Following a restructure of the Council’s Cultural and Community Services, this role will manage the newly created Parks and Green Space unit. It will also play a key role in delivering the Council’s commitments to tackling the Climate Emergency and support the delivery of its environmental ambitions within the Council’s Corporate Plan.

The role will see you make a direct impact on quality of life in South Derbyshire and require you to manage a team with a diverse and exciting portfolio. Responsibilities include: parks and green spaces, trees and hedges, land drainage and flood prevention, cemeteries and allotments, biodiversity, Section 106 and capital projects, community facilities, client responsibility for adoption, management and development of green space, play sites, Rosliston Forestry Centre and environmental education.

You will be expected to take a leading role in protecting and enhancing the built and natural environment and work with partners and colleagues to develop a strategic approach across all work areas.

We are looking for someone who is determined to achieve the very best for the communities in which they work and who will step up to take the initiative and the accountability for making things happen.

It is a role that requires experience and knowledge of Parks and Green Space management, and high-level skills in leadership, team building, partnership working, performance, change, resource and project management, marketing and creativity. You will also need to be an excellent communicator, be decisive, have an ability to think, plan and deliver strategically, manage a diverse and demanding workload, be politically aware and display a commitment to high standards.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead and develop a new team, with new appointments and a new focus and shape its direction, culture, standards and achievements.

The job is a permanent and full-time appointment.
