Environmental Principle Land Management Consultant – EDF Energy Framework - Technical Manager

Freedom Estate Management Services is recruiting an experienced Environmental Land Management Consultant to act as Technical Manager for our Environmental Land Management Framework with EDF Energy. The post-holder will be responsible for managing the technical oversight and delivery of land management activities across EDF Energy’s 8 station land holdings in England and Scotland. Delivery at each site is based around an annual work program derived from an Integrated Land Management Plan that delivers the clients objectives for Access/Recreation, Biodiversity, Archaeology, Landscape, Agriculture/Forestry, and Community whilst meeting EDF Energy’s core business needs. EDF Energy aims to maintain and increase biodiversity in line with its own sustainability policy, and Biodiversity Action Plan. Overall contract delivery is always delivered to ensure Zero Harm, compliance with legislation and best practice.

The post holder will be a key part of the delivery team, working closely with our client based at Barnwood, Gloucestershire, working closely alongside the Freedom Framework Operations Manager. The post-holder will have overall responsibility for the management of eight station sites across England and Scotland working alongside and supporting our Station Consultants.

Within the contract Freedom delivers advice on Land Management strategy and planning, Habitat creation and management, Ecological surveys and impact assessment, Forestry and woodland management, Agricultural land management and scheme advice, Landscape assessment, Pest Control, Land Restoration and soils, Drainage, Budget and Financial Management, Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance, Appointment and Management of Contractors, Stakeholder Liaison, Reporting and a wide range of other land management related activities. As well as advising on and scoping all works, Freedom manages delivery all the way through to completion including all aspects of health and safety.

The key responsibilities will be to;

• Provide Environmental Land Management technical support to enable Freedom to meet the technical and delivery requirements of the contract. This requires a good knowledge and experience of practical delivery of land management activities.
• Have an overview and understanding of EDF Energy’s station sites (Hinkley, Dungeness, Sizewell, Sutton Bridge, Hartlepool, Torness, Hunterston and Heysham) providing technical advice and support to our own station consultants and our client.
• Attend site meetings nationally to coordinate delivery and support station consultants delivering local work programmes.
• Projects manage individual technical call off projects covering a wide range of topics and utilising a wide range of specialist sub-contractors. 
• Produce and quality control reports in order to deliver high quality reports to the client.
• Assist in the management and supervision of the sub-contractors, and the associated compliance with internal and external requirements for delivery (health and safety, certification, training).
• Provide high level technical advice to EDF Energy on land management requirements.
• Provide technical input into budgeting and pricing of work programmes and quotes for additional call off work.
• As part of the core contract management team attend quarterly contract reviews and various other strategic budgeting and technical review meetings.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications required;

• At least 10 years’ experience of working within the environmental/land management consultancy sector.
• Experience and knowledge of land based industries (Agriculture, Land Management, Forestry, Ecology and Landscape).
• Practical understanding of Habitat creation, maintenance and restoration. Practical understanding of ecology, ecological mitigation and wildlife legislation
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Good report writing skills
• Ability to work under pressure in a heavily regulated compliance driven environment
• Good commercial acumen
• Ability to prioritise works, amongst a demanding delivery schedule 
• Accurate information gathering and record keeping.
• Understanding of health and safety management and its application in the context of construction and rural land management.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships internally, and with clients and stakeholders.
• Client focused approach to delivery
• Ability to be reactive and responsive to demands of this dynamic project.
