Althelia Funds is headquartered in London, with projects in Latin America, Africa and Asia. We currently have three funds under management – the Althelia Climate Fund (ACF), the Land Degradation Neutrality Fund (LDN) and the Althelia Sustainable Ocean Fund (SOF). Althelia Funds are also the appointed investment Advisor to the AGRI3 Fund. Althelia Funds are in the process of launching other financing vehicles in the sustainable landuse space.

This opportunity is to join the London team as the Technical Officer, reporting to the Chief Technical Officer to manage the emissions reductions and sustainable production element our existing portfolio projects as well as lead on technical screening and due diligence of pipeline projects for new funds. The role will have a global mandate and require travel to visit investment sites.

We are looking for someone with experience in developing/auditing REDD+ projects. The ideal candidate will also have experience in sustainable commodity production (cocoa, agroforestry, palm oil) and be able to take technical responsibility for these investments under the supervision of the Chief Technical Officer.

Job Description

• Assess the opportunities and risks presented by new REDD+ investment opportunities globally via desk-based analysis and site visits. Responsibility extended to commodity production for suitably qualified candidates.
• Manage and oversee the performance of our existing portfolio of REDD+ projects, including their position with emerging jurisdictional and national REDD+ schemes. Responsibility extended to commodity production for suitably qualified candidates.
• Manage and develop internal impact reporting related to emissions reductions.
• Maintain an understanding of international best practice REDD+ implementation

Person Specification

Essential:

• Minimum 3 years’ in the technical elements of REDD+ projects/programs.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
• GIS and remote sensing experience.
• Experience of working in developing countries.
• Undergraduate/graduate degree in relevant discipline
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Excellent time and project management
• Availability and willingness for global travel (up to 30% of time)
• Right to work in the UK

Desirable

• Technical experience in sustainable agriculture projects (especially agroforestry and palm oil)
• Experience of financing in the context of REDD+
• Experience with sustainability certifications e.g. Rainforest Alliance
• Experience of applying ESG in an asset management/banking environment
• Foreign languages
