Role Purpose

The role will carry out data analysis, data validation, and evidence synthesis to inform and implement NRW’s work on the improving marine assessment and reporting project, and to provide quality-assured analytical outputs for inclusion in the project. You will focus on marine data analysis and reporting and work with technical marine experts across the organisation, other members of the marine & coastal policy & planning team and engage with stakeholders.

The role will be a project officer on a European Marine & Fisheries Fund project entitled Improving marine site level feature condition assessment reporting in Wales. 

A focus of the role will be as follows:

• To work with NRW data teams – particularly the WFD teams and the marine monitoring team to understand and extract the right data locations in the right format to undertake the indicator development.

• To work with all the necessary teams across NRW to collate the right data to undertake the pilot assessments.

• To organise and help run meetings and workshops with specialists to develop the indicators and carry out pilot assessments.

To act as secretariat for the project Steering Group.

Qualifications and Skills

• You will have strong analytical skills that enable you to process, analyse and interpret large amounts of technical information 

• Knowledge of: Welsh, UK and EU legislation related to MPAs; Welsh, UK Government policy drivers in MPA management; and the issues and opportunities in Wales.

• Experience of: technical analysis and interpretation of a range of environmental information and data;

• Experience of working in a programme and project management environment 

• Good communication and inter personal skills
