WHAT WE DO

The MSC runs an exciting and ambitious program, working with partners to transform the world's seafood markets and promote sustainable fishing practices.

Our vision is for the world's oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations.

Our credible standards for sustainable fishing and seafood traceability seek to increase the availability of certified sustainable seafood. Our distinctive blue ecolabel makes it easy for everyone to take part.

Set standards

We set and maintain the standards for sustainable fishing and seafood traceability. These standards are helping to make global seafood markets more sustainable.

Work with fisheries

We offer fisheries around the world a way to gain recognition and reward for environmental management. Partnership with fisheries helps create a market for sustainable seafood and offers other fisheries incentives to change.

Work with developing countries

Half of the world's seafood comes from developing countries, where millions rely on fish as a vital source of nutrition and income. We work with partners to give fisheries from developing countries equal opportunities to enter assessment for MSC certification.

Work with retailers

We have joined forces with some of the world's leading retailers, brands and seafood businesses. Many have placed the MSC program at the centre of their sustainable seafood policies.

Raise awareness with consumers

Our blue ecolabel gives everyone an easy way to make the best environmental choice when shopping or dining out. Our communications and marketing activities raise awareness of our ecolabel.

Educate future generations

The next generation needs to be encouraged to eat sustainable fish and understand the importance of marine conservation. Through our Fish & Kids projects, we provide teaching resources on marine issues and our work with school lunch providers promotes sustainable seafood served in schools.
