First Ecology is the environmental consulting subsidiary of the Somerset Wildlife Trust and is committed to upholding best practice standards whilst also achieving pragmatic project outcomes. We have established a broad client base which extends across public, private and commercial sectors and provides technical advice and support on development, research, conservation and management schemes across the UK. We are now seeking an arboricultural consultant to join the team and diversify the services we offer.

The role

The role involves management and delivery of arboricultural projects with an opportunity to significantly influence the future development of the business. There will be a requirement to liaise with clients, contractors and statutory agents; set and manage project budgets and timescales; undertake arboricultural surveys in accordance with best practice; and produce high-quality technical documents and reports.

The role requires a commercially aware, self-motived, hard-working, ambitious and organised individual seeking new challenges and continuously aiming to increase their knowledge and perfect their skills. Applicants should also have an approachable, polite, confident persona with a logical, reliable, positive and pragmatic attitude to work.

Qualifications (preferred)

• A Technicians Certificate in Arboriculture.
• At least one degree in a relevant discipline.
• A member of the Arboricultural Association.
• Full UK driving licence with vehicle insured for business purpose.

Knowledge and experience

• Experience of arboricultural assessments in private consultancy delivering a range of arboricultural services; including the application of specified methodologies including BS5837:2012 tree surveys, impact assessments, tree constraints plans, method statements and tree protection plans; BS 8545:2014; BS3998: 2010; tree safety and risk assessments; and arboricultural mortgage and subsidence reports.
• Knowledge of relevant policy and legislation relating to arboricultural matters.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
• Competent in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, GIS and preferably AutoCad.
