Salary band - Up to £22,000 (dependant on experience) plus overtime (by agreement)

Hours - Full Time; Core Hours 9.00am-5.00pm, with half an hour unpaid lunch break, Monday to Friday, with the occasional need to work overtime – Part Time hours will be considered for the right applicant

Holiday & Benefits - 25 days hols plus bank holidays. 5% Employer Pension contribution. Other employee benefits after successful completion of 6-month probation period

To continue work started to meet customer requirements and complete future developments. A complete package delivery is essential.

Role Summary 

Support the Marine Mammal Consultant to deliver desk-based projects and to develop a comprehensive client-base and promotion of Seiche’s environmental services.

Key tasks of the role

Principal accountabilities:

• To deliver desk-based work including Marine Mammal Impact Assessments, Mitigation Plans and Marine Mammal Risk Assessments
• Liaise with governmental bodies and different stakeholders in offshore developments and provide expertise on legislation and industry needs
• Support the Seiche Environmental Marine Mammal Consultant and Business Manager to market, tender and manage desk-based marine mammal related projects and to develop a comprehensive client-base
• Support, develop and deliver marine mammal mitigation and observer training courses
• Ensure the Company and Group’s scientific understanding and knowledge of marine mammals and underwater acoustic issues are current and cutting edge
• Provide advice to clients on marine mammal legislation and mitigation both nationally and internationally
• Produce quotes and tenders for related projects as well as coordinate such projects for the Department
• Produce and provide high quality desk-based works including peer-reviewing papers
• Attend conferences, meetings and promote Seiche’s environmental services
• Organise training courses and events

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to liaise and build relationships with internal stakeholder and clients. This will include client visits and submission of tenders and the subsequent follow up actions.

• Marine mammals’ biology and ecology with special attention to impacts of anthropogenic noise
• Offshore industry, seismic, renewables, dredging, decommissioning, research etc
• Offshore working HSSE
• Knowledge of environmental compliance and governmental regulatory systems
• Passive Acoustic Monitoring Technology
• Underwater Acoustics
• Project management techniques


• Previous experience in an offshore role including MMO, PAM, Acoustic Scientist, Environmental Scientist
• Previous consultancy experience providing advice to range of client bodies
• Previous relevant marine oil and gas or renewable energy industry experience is advantageous
• Proven ability to build strong face to face relationships
• Proven negotiating skills
• Proven publishing and desktop work track record

Education & Certification

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in marine mammal science or related disciplines
• Charters scientist status (desirable)
• JNCC MMO certification (desirable)
• PAM Training certification (desirable)

The nature of this role will mean that the successful candidate will be expected to respond to requests outside of standard business hours, additionally potential inter-company site visits, client visits, marketing events and possible global travel will be essential in this role.
